Help Using Zoom Web Conferencing
It is strongly recommended that ALL users familiarize themselves with the Zoom the day before joining a Zoom session. Depending on your organizational policies you may need assistance from your Information Technology (IT) Staff if firewalls prevent you from downloading files. Below are instructions for checking your computer system to ensure your internet connection, microphone and speakers are configured correctly.
Step 1 - Joining a Zoom session - Check System Requirements
To attend Department on Disability's Zoom session, you will need to use Zoom Webinar that runs on Mac, Windows, iOS, or Android. Please review Zoom's system and operating systems' requirements for specific details.
Downloading the Zoom client
You can download the Zoom application for:
Desktop Client
Mobile App
- iOS - Zoom Cloud Meetings app (available on the App Store)
- Android - Zoom Cloud Meetings app (available on Google Play)
Step 2 - Testing your internet connection, microphone and speakers
Zoom provides a Test Room that you can use to test your internet connection, settings, and configure your audio. To begin testing, please visit https://zoom.us/test and click Join button link.
Joining a meeting session by phone
You can join Zoom meeting via teleconferencing / audio conferencing (using a traditional phone).
- Star 6 to mute / unmute audio
- Star 9 to raise hand / lower hand
Accessibility
All Department on Disability Zoom events are provided with live captioning as well as Sign Language Interpreter (SLI). Answers to common questions regarding accessibility can be found on Zoom's Accessibility Frequently Asked Questions web page.
Keyboard Shortcuts for Desktop Zoom
To ensure full keyboard support within the desktop meeting client, the toolbar must be set to not automatically hide. This can be accomplished by unchecking the "Always show meeting controls" under the "Accessibility" section of the desktop application Settings, or in the "In-meeting (basic)" section of the web portal Settings. This may be also be accomplished on a per-meeting basis using the "Toggle the 'Always show meeting controls' option in Settings/Accessibility" keyboard shortcut. Please see below for a list of other important navigational keyboard shortcuts.
